        Values Based Leadership

        Classic models of leadership teach the academic and business school tools of learning.  One thing is always missing - the leader themselves. 

        Knowing who you are and managing and leading yourself underpins how you feel, your style, your thinking, your behaviour.  Everything in fact.  Values Based Leadership creates leaders with unique positive characters.  Leaders understand who they are, their values.  With iAM this is in their own words.  No pigeon holing or assessment. 

        When a leader brings their best self to work - their values - they bring out the best in everyone and create a team environment where people are able and confident to be authentic too. Never before has knowing your values been so important. Think authentic vs. professional leadership.

        When you think about developing yourself or others as leaders our movement suggests that you move away from a traditional back to basics approach. Start with the person themselves.  Help them to understand who they are and then add on the great tools and frameworks.   

        • Help your leaders to define their values in their own words, them, the real person not their leadership style.
        • Then help them to use their values to be their best self and define their approach and behaviours.

        • Then support, encourage and help them to use who they are to lead themselves and others authentically.

         

        For too long, traditional businesses have recruited from a like-minded set, and encouraged conformity.

        This kind of thinking not only suppresses personalities, it makes for stagnant workplaces, where outside the box thinking is actively diminished. Smart businesses value truly diverse workforces, who bring unique perspectives and together have a combustible energy that engenders huge leaps in progress.

        We’re more than a movement. #BeYourselfAtWork is the future of the workplace: a community of individuals, unafraid to express their true selves, and are thriving and driving businesses forward as a result.
